Tips on Choosing and Tying Neckties

A necktie is a close friend of the suit, and you will feel at loss if wearing a suit without a necktie. Neckties are available in many colors and the materials are mainly in silk or polyester.

Neckties should go well with shirts and suits. Currently, the colors of neckties should be dark red, purple, coffee brown or other warm colors to match the suits since most suits are gray, dark gray, blue, black and brown.

The width of neckties should also be coordinated with the width of shirt collar or suit collar. The large pointed collar shirt with a narrow tie or a wide necktie with a small collar suit is inappropriate.

Whether the colors of neckties, shirts, and suits match is another issue we should pay attention to. Generally, the principle is no more than three colors. For example, a navy suit can go with a blue shirt and an azure necktie; of course, the tie can have some red or white stripes or other patterns. Light colored neckties and shirts are suitable for light gray suits; for dark suits, shirts should be in light color and neckties should be in dark color.

Moreover, the color of the necktie should also be coordinated with the specific occasion. For example, bright colorful neckties are preferred in festival and dinner parties; the dark or black ties should be tied in the solemn occasion.

There are some ways to tie neckties. There is no need to turn over the collar to wear a tie. Button up your shirt first; hang the necktie outside the collar, press the wider end under the collar, pull the other end, and then your tie is caught in the middle of collar.
